murmurART, a pioneering new platform working with emerging artists at the outset of their careers, launches this summer with a pop-up exhibition in Selfridges’ Concept Store, the alt-creative hub of the store’s luxury department, The Wonder Room.
A panel of ten prominent figures, headed up by Alannah Weston, Selfridges’ Creative Director, will pick their favourite young artists, whose work will be exhibited in a show curated by Flora Fairbairn. Ahead of the game the unique murmurART model operates through a versatile website supporting regular exhibitions and events in roaming creative spaces.
Conrad Shawcross and Tracey Emin will join Kirsty Wark, Tim Marlow and collectors Kay Saatchi, Anita Zabludowicz and Kevin Spacey, to form the panel, each of whom will select their favourite upcoming artist for the exhibition.
A selling show, featuring works priced from £1,000, murmurART at Selfridges will allow the artists to take one hundred percent of the sale price of their main exhibited work, with more works available to buy at www.murmurart.com. Exciting editions and artist-created product, priced from £50 to £500, will be on sale as part of the exhibition and available for visitors to buy and take away.
Of the project, Alannah Weston said: “Selfridges has a long-established history of collaborating with artists and supporting emerging talents. murmurART at Selfridges is another very special project in which we are delighted to be involved as it launches both a new exciting venture in murmurART and brilliant new artists.”
murmurART was set up in April 2008 by Will Conibear and Donald Eastwood, with the sole purpose of providing a platform for supporting and showcasing the best in new art talent. On murmurART.com works can be viewed and bought, allowing visitors the freedom to buy from beyond the confines of a traditional gallery setting. Unlike other art websites, the murmurART team rigorously select the most exciting artists and the highest quality work to feature on the site.
Working in close collaboration with former Editor of ArtReview Catriona Warren, and leading independent curator Flora Fairbairn, both of whom have a proven track record in spotting the hottest new art talents, the murmurART team is constantly sourcing the most exciting up-and-coming artists. Moreover murmurART provides buyers starting a collection, with professional guidance and the assurance of an expert eye.
This unique model of working with emerging talents allows murmurART to provide them with all the support they need to help establish themselves in the industry. The website also gives murmurART limitless space and the flexibility to promote more work by more artists at any one time. The murmurART site also features editorial content, blogs, artists’ profiles and offers e-visitors the chance to interact in online forums.
This will be the first in a programme of murmurART exhibitions to take place in spaces across London.
